How will this peanut butter granola make your life easier?

Let's be honest, it's definitely easier to buy granola, but making it can be a better option.I've started asking myself a few questions to decide each time I need more of the aforementioned ingredients, these may be helpful for you to determine the costs/benefits of making your own -whatever it is-

    • How long would it take me to make xxxxx?
    • Is the homemade version WAAAAAY tastier?
    • Will it save me a lot of money?
    • Do I enjoy making xxxxx recipe?

What makes this granola so good?

    • Peanut butter
    • Honey
    • Salt
    • Chia seeds
    • Rolled oats

How do I make peanut butter granola?

softened peanut butter in a glass bowl

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Add ¾ c peanut butter, ½ c honey, and ¾ teaspoon salt to large microwavable bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds-1 minute on high, until peanut butter and honey are softened. Stir together.

Expert Tip: You can use smooth or chunky peanut butter depending if you like small peanut chunks in your granola or not.

oats, chia seeds, and peanut butter in a glass bowl

Add ¼ c chia seeds and 4 c rolled oats to softened peanut butter mix. Mix together in same bowl. Pour granola mixture onto greased baking sheet, spread out in an even layer.

Expert Tip: Make sure peanut butter mixture is evenly coating all the oats. And don't spread it out too thin, or it'll burn quickly.

uncooked peanut butter granola on a baking sheet

Bake for 15-20 minutes, stirring once 10 minutes into baking time. Remove when oats are golden brown, but not crunchy. They will harden up out of the oven. Transfer to an airtight container, store in a cool dry place, and use for a week.

Expert Tip: Set a timer, it goes from toasted and soft to burnt and too crunchy quickly.

    FAQ

What can I eat granola with?

Eat it with yogurt, in a smoothie, pour milk into it, or eat it dry for a snack. Granola is a great breakfast and snack option because it's really versatile. You can even top ice cream with it for a flavorful crunch!

Is adding peanut butter to granola healthy?

Peanut butter is a great source of protein, mono-unsaturated fats, and even has some fiber in it. I don't recommend focusing on individual ingredients or meals as healthy, but to instead eat a variety of foods throughout the week. Read more about my nutrition philosophy here.

Can I eat granola with milk?

Yes, absolutely. It's like a crunchy cereal when you pour milk into it. I'd recommend eating it quickly or it gets really soggy and the clusters fall apart.

Yogurt, peanut butter granola, and strawberries in a white bowl. More ingredients in background

How can I repurpose this peanut butter granola?

Use it in yogurt, eat like cereal, much on it dry, or add it to your favorite smoothie, like this one.

What can I make with leftover ingredients?

    • (peanut butter) Small Batch Peanut Butter Cookies, PB Energy Bites, in this PB Yogurt Dip, or in a Waffle Bar.
    • (oats) Overnight Oats with Yogurt, PB Overnight Oats, PB Energy Bites
    • (chia seeds) Chunky Monkey Chia Pudding, and Triple Berry Chia Pudding, PB Energy Bites, Turkey & Brie Sandwich with Blueberry Mustard (made with chia seeds), or in the sauce on these Ham & Swiss Sliders.
