Enjoy this french toast for one recipe any day of the week. It's a great 15 minute recipe that can be enjoyed in the morning or for dinner. It's dipped in a rich custard dip and pan fried to crispy deliciousness.
2slicesbreadchallah, brioche, cinnamon raisin, wheat, white bread, etc.
1egg
¼cupmilk
½teaspoonvanilla
½teaspoonmaple syrupor white sugar or brown sugar
¼teaspooncinnamon
pinch table salt
Instructions
Heat large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. While pan is heating up, crack an egg into a shallow bowl, add ¼ cup milk, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon maple syrup, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of table salt to egg.
Whisk until incorporated.
Dip both slices of bread in egg mixture, cover one side, then flip quickly. Let sit in egg mixture for 15-30 seconds on the second side. This will help you not get dry spots.
Spray pan with cooking spray, or add butter. Wipe excess egg off of bread slices on the edge of bowl. Transfer to hot skillet. Cook 3-4 minutes on each side. Cook until golden brown on both sides.
Enjoy immediately. Top with butter, maple syrup, and other toppings such as berries, chopped nuts, chocolate chips, and/or whipped cream.

Notes
Brioche and challah bread are best, but you can use whatever kind of bread that you have.
If using thick sliced bread, add double the milk mixture. If you like very flavorful french toast, you can double the vanilla, maple syrup, and even the cinnamon too.
I like using maple syrup to sweeten the custard, it adds a nice extra maple flavor. But you can use regular white sugar or brown sugar. It's not a strong flavor, so any work.
Double or triple the recipe for a crowd.
Topping ideas: butter, maple syrup, fresh fruit, chocolate chips, powdered sugar, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc.
