If you're anything like me and run out of nut butter before you run out of nuts, this is a great general recipe to use up those leftover nuts and save some money on nut butter. It's a win-win.

    Ingredients

Scroll down to the honey almond butter recipe card for the amounts of each ingredient, but here's a quick visual + description of what's in this recipe.

    • Roasted almonds
    • Canola oil
    • Kosher salt
    • Honey

    Instructions

Scroll down to the honey almond butter recipe card for more detailed instructions. Here's a quick overview + photos to see how to make this recipe in general.

ingredients for honey almond butter in a blender jar

    1. Add roasted almonds, salt, honey, and canola oil to a high powered blender or food processor. Mix until smooth and has the consistency of nut butter.

You may need to stop and stir the almonds so they can continue to blend together.

Transfer honey almond butter to glass jar and refrigerate until use.

    Storage Tips

Refrigerate honey almond butter in an airtight container after it's made. It should last in the fridge for a couple weeks. Especially if it's in the back, where it's colder.

    Substitutions/Tips

    • Use at least 2 cups of nuts, if you don't use many, it'll be hard to blend.
    • Stir honey almond butter with paddle or rubber spatula if it stops mixing.
    • Adjust honey and salt to your preference

    FAQ

How do you make almond butter from scratch?

All you need is a high powered blender (smoother) or food processor (bit more chunky). Add roasted almonds, oil, salt, and honey to the bowl and blend until smooth. Refrigerate until use.

How long does homemade almond butter last?

Refrigerated almond butter should last about two weeks. It may last longer, if you're not sure, sniff it. Your food will start to smell bad before it would make you sick, usually. This is a great way to help you reduce food waste.

What can you use in place of almond butter?

You can swap out most nut butters. Almond butter and peanut butter are closest in flavor, I think. Plus you'll save money and reduce food waste by swapping ingredients.

    How to use almond butter

Top your toast in the morning, make a honey almond butter & jelly sandwich, add to smoothies or make cookies with it. Almond butter, and really all nut butters are great and versatile!

Use it instead of peanut butter in these peanut butter recipes like these small batch peanut butter cookies, PB yogurt dip, and peanut butter overnight oats.

All this time at home had me wondering how I could get nut butters - since the grocery stores have that section closed. Well you are right my friend - almond butter is better than store bought! Happy to have this in my recipe book now.

I totally feel your pain about the rice paper wrappers. I think I've had the same package for 2 years and it never gets used up. I've been seeing many DIY nut butters lately so I've got to get on board with it! Thanks for the inspiration!

yes! it's so easy! Do you use that attachment for anything other than nut butters? I need to check that out, stirring it is a bit of a chore

I've been wanting to jump ship and get into private practice, but the idea of not having a steady stream of income has kept me from going for it. So envious of you for taking the plunge! Also this almond butter looks so simple and delicious - I'll be giving it a shot soon as store-bought almond butter is getting a bit pricey.
