Smoothies are a great way to a quick breakfast, they're also a great option for when you don't have much in the fridge. It's made with pantry staples like frozen fruit, Greek yogurt, and tea.

This blueberry tea smoothie is fairly light, so if you're looking for a more satisfying breakfast, pair it with something like this Bagel with Eggs. Or enjoy as a refreshing snack.

I prefer this smoothie with wild blueberries because they've got more flavor than regular ones, but use whatever you have. The zingy lemon ginger tea, frozen blueberries, and vanilla Greek yogurt go so well together in this refreshing drink.

    Ingredients

Scroll down to the blueberry tea smoothie recipe card for the amounts of each ingredient, but here's a quick description of what's in this recipe.

    • Lemon and ginger teabag: It's my favorite with lemon ginger tea, but you could use chamomile, green tea, black tea or whatever you have in this blueberry tea smoothie.
    • Vanilla Greek yogurt: Using a simple flavored yogurt adds some protein, flavor, and sweetness. You can use plain yogurt, and add some honey if you'd like.
    • Frozen blueberries: I prefer wild blueberries or a really flavorful frozen blueberry.

    Instructions

Scroll down to the blueberry tea smoothie recipe card for more detailed instructions. Here's a quick overview + photos to see how to make this recipe in general.

Start by steeping teabag in boiling water for 3-5 minutes (depending on how strong you want the lemon-ginger flavor). Throw away teabags after tea is made.

yogurt and frozen blueberries in a blender bowl

Add tea, vanilla yogurt, and frozen blueberries to blender. Blend tea smoothie until well incorporated. If you'd like it to be thinner, feel free to add more water or milk to smoothie.

    Storage Tips

Smoothies, including this blueberry tea smoothie, don't usually store well. For best results, freeze leftover smoothie in an ice tray and blend again with some liquid. You could refrigerate leftovers for a day or two, but the texture will change.

    Substitutions/Tips

    • Boil water in the microwave or in a tea kettle.
    • Lemon ginger tea is really good in this, but lemon tea or ginger tea would be great too. Use whatever zippy tea you have on hand.
    • Use your favorite flavor of yogurt. Plain, vanilla, and blueberry would be great choices in this blueberry tea smoothie!
    • Frozen fruit is better than fresh because it'll make the smoothie icy and cold. Add a couple ice cubes if you don't have frozen berries.
    • Other great add-ins: honey, ginger, chia seeds, etc.

    FAQ

What do you put in a smoothie?

Some of the yummiest ingredients to add to a smoothie are: berries, bananas, tropical fruits, milk, fruit juice, yogurt, leafy greens (spinach & kale in particular), and you can also add nut butter, & seeds.

Do you make smoothies with milk or water?

I always use milk because of the added flavor and protein. fruit juice will add more nutrients and flavor than water. But just adding a dash of water won't dilute the smoothie too much, so that's fine.

    Other good smoothie recipes

Here are a couple other quick breakfast ideas: Mixed Fruit Smoothie with Granola, or this PB Strawberry Banana Smoothie. Also check out these other breakfast recipes.

What to do with leftover ingredients

When you're cooking for one, you often have leftover produce, cans of whatever ingredient, etc. Here are a couple ideas on how to use up the leftover ingredients. It'll help you save money by wasting fewer ingredients.

    • Frozen blueberries: add to any other smoothie like this mixed berry smoothie w/ granola, or this Turkey & Brie Sandwich with Blueberry Mustard (I won an award for it!)
    • Greek Yogurt: Peanut Butter Overnight Oats, Overnight Oats with Yogurt, Yogurt Bowl, Pineapple Cucumber Smoothie, or this Apple and Yogurt Tart.
