As much as I love eggs and pancakes and other breakfasts, during the week, I know I need something extremely easy. I like smoothies, but sometimes it's hard to make one that is satisfying enough to last until lunch.

This strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie is perfect for days where you need a quick protein packed breakfast that you can eat on the go. It's got protein, carbs, calcium to fill you up. Plus it's so easy to drink!

This smoothie is a great handheld breakfast to have while getting ready, on the road, or at your desk. Having something in the morning can be so helpful for your energy levels and focus, so enjoy a super easy breakfast like this one.

    Ingredients

Scroll down to the strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie recipe card for the amounts of each ingredient, but here's a quick visual + description of what's in this recipe.

strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie ingredients on a table
    • Plain or Vanilla Greek yogurt: I usually keep plain Greek yogurt on hand, as it's more versatile than flavored. But use what you have. Vanilla may be best, but you could add lots of fruit yogurts to this smoothie.
    • Orange Juice: I love a flavorful, tangy smoothie. Adding orange juice is a great way to get just that! It's even good with the added peanut butter
    • Peanut butter powder/peanut butter
    • Banana: a fresh or frozen banana adds creaminess and a base sweetness to smoothies, a frozen banana will make your smoothie extra creamy. It's essential in this strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie.
    • Frozen strawberries: You can use fresh or frozen berries, but I recommend frozen to make it smoother and more cold. Frozen fruit is best in any smoothie.

    Instructions

Scroll down to the strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie recipe card for more detailed instructions. Here's a quick overview + photos to see how to make this recipe in general.

strawberries, banana, orange juice and other smoothie ingredients in a blender

    1. Add all ingredients to blender bowl: banana, Greek yogurt, peanut butter powder, orange juice, frozen strawberries.

    2. Blend until smooth. Pour your strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie into large glass, drink immediately.

    Storage Tips

Smoothies aren't that great after sitting out. You could refrigerate your strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie for later if you really want to save it, but the texture changes a lot, and the flavor a bit too.

    Substitutions/Tips

    • Use plain, vanilla, or another fruit flavored Greek yogurt in your strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie
    • You can use any kind of milk that you prefer, including dairy free milks. Soy milk, unsweetened almond milk, sweetened almond milk, oat milk, etc.
    • If you're not using frozen strawberries, you might want to add an extra strawberry to this recipe.
    • Substitute peanut butter powder with 1 Tablespoon peanut butter
    • If you cook for one, consider keeping a can of orange juice concentrate in your freezer and spoon some out every time you want OJ or need it in a recipe.
    • Other great add-ins: vanilla or coconut granola, raspberries or other berries, milk, flaxseed or chia, other nut butter would all be good added to this strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie.

    FAQ

What is the best base for a smoothie?

Greek yogurt, milk/fruit juice, frozen/fresh spinach, fruit, and a banana are all great bases for smoothies. A banana adds sweetness and nutrients, banana and the rest make your smoothie very creamy.

What fruits not to mix in a smoothie?

Really any fruit is good in a smoothie, you may want to base that on what kind of blender you're using. If you have a high speed blender, you could use any fruit, but if you don't, large frozen fruits wouldn't blend up well.

Do you put water or milk in smoothies?

I usually add milk because it won't water down the flavors of the fruit in the smoothie. But in this recipe, I added orange juice instead of milk. It adds a really great tanginess to the smoothie that I highly recommend.

    Repurpose smoothie

Some leftover strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie might be good added to a yogurt bowl.

What to do with leftover ingredients

When you're cooking for one, you often have leftover produce, cans of whatever ingredient, etc. Here are a couple ideas on how to use up the leftover ingredients. It'll help you save money by wasting fewer ingredients.

    • Banana: PB Banana Overnight Oats, Bananas Foster Pancakes, Pineapple Cucumber Smoothie, Banana Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins, and Single Serving Banana Bread
    • Frozen Strawberries: Mixed Berry Smoothie with Granola, Strawberry Banana Milkshake.
    • Orange Juice: Mimosa Mocktail, Smashed Cranberry Mocktail, Use in the dressing for Spinach Salad with Mandarin Oranges
    • Greek Yogurt: Overnight Oats with Yogurt, PB Yogurt Dip, Cinnamon Roll Overnight Oats, or an Easy Yogurt Bowl
    • Peanut Butter Powder (or peanut butter): PB Caramel, or add to a smoothie
