If you love the idea of a St Patrick's day milkshake, but don't really like how drive-thru shamrock shakes taste, than you've got to try this easy homemade shamrock shake recipe. it just requires 5 ingredients that you won't hate having extras of.
It's a great, easy recipe to celebrate St Patty's Day as a solo cook. Even though you don't use up all the ingredients, they're versatile. I mean who doesn't like having leftover ice cream or minty chocolates?
Ingredients
Scroll down to the homemade shamrock shake recipe card for the amounts of each ingredient, but here's a quick visual + description of what's in this recipe.
- Vanilla ice cream: Use your favorite vanilla ice cream in this homemade shamrock shake recipe
- Spinach leaves: Spinach in a milkshake? Adding a handful won't change the flavor much, but will add nice green color to this shake. Trust me! It's a great addition.
- Milk: Add as much as you need to get the perfect for you milkshake thickness.
- Andes mints: Adds chocolate and minty flavor to this easy shake. I highly recommend using Andes or another tasty mint/chocolate candy.
- Whipped cream: it's a nice garnish but not necessary for the milkshake itself.
Instructions
Scroll down to the recipe card for more detailed instructions. Here's a quick overview + photos to see how to make this recipe in general.
Add vanilla ice cream, spinach leaves, milk, and Andes mints to blender jar.
Blend until smooth. Top your homemade shamrock shake with whipped cream and another Andes mint.
Storage Tips
A milkshake usually doesn't store well. You could put leftovers in the freezer for about an hour, but any longer it'll freeze hard and it's difficult to thaw it to a nice eating consistency. I recommend eating milkshakes immediately.
Substitutions/Tips
- The spinach leaves make this shake green, but don't add a spinach-y flavor, unless you add more than a handful.
- Use any mint chocolate you like, or use mint chocolate chip ice cream.
- Other great add-ins: mint extract, chocolate chips, green food coloring, etc
