How will this chocolate popcorn make your life easier?

Pantry snacks are great because you don't have to already have snacks on hand, instead you can throw together a couple ingredients and make a quick snack. This easy sweet and salty chocolate covered popcorn recipe is ready in 5 minutes.

This popcorn snack is great for one person, it makes about 1 ½ cups popped popcorn. Cook your popcorn easily in a Stasher bag or brown paper bag in the microwave, or in an Air Fryer.

What makes this chocolate drizzled popcorn reciipe so good?

stasher bag, popcorn kernels, chocolate chips, ingredients in bowls
    • Popcorn: Use yellow or white popcorn in this easy chocolate covered popcorn recipe.
    • Cooking Spray: It's so easy to quickly spray your popcorn evenly. You can also use oil or butter.
    • Table Salt: Table salt is nice in this recipe because it can get evenly distributed. But you can substitute kosher salt if needed.
    • Chocolate Chips: Melt semi-sweet chocolate chips with oil to create a nice chocolate drizzle. You can use white, milk, and/or any other kind of chocolate chips you like.
    • Neutral oil: Add just a bit of oil to your chocolate chips. It will thin the chocolate out enough to easily drizzle it over popcorn to make tasty chocolate covered popcorn.
    • Kosher Salt: Add a pinch of bigger salt crystals for a salty bite on top. You don't need to add this, but it's nice.

How do I make chocolate popcorn?

popcorn kernels in purple stasher bag

To start your chocolate covered popcorn, add popcorn kernels to Stasher bag or paper bag. Seal Stasher bag, leaving 1 inch open for steam to release. If using a paper bag, roll up bag and place rolled part down.

purple stasher bag with popcorn in it

Microwave 2-3 minutes, or until it stops popping. Cook it similar to a microwave popcorn bag. You can remove popped popcorn as it pops to reduce burning, if needed.

spoon in melted chocolate in small bowl

Remove when done. Add chocolate chips and oil to small microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second increments, until melted. Stir to smooth.

hands holding open bag of popcorn

While chocolate is in the microwave, spray popcorn with cooking spray and add salt. Shake vigorously to coat all popcorn kernels. Taste test it, it should be just slightly under-salted.

When chocolate is melted, pour about ⅓ of popcorn into serving bowl. Then drizzle about ⅓ of chocolate.

Repeat. Refrigerate until chocolate hardens or eat your chocolate covered popcorn for one immediately.

    Substitutions/Tips

    • Use a sandwich Stasher bag or larger to pop your popcorn, or small paper bag.
    • Make popcorn in air popper or Air Fryer. Use this Air Fryer Popcorn recipe.
    • You can also melt 1 Tablespoon each white and dark or milk chocolate chips, with ⅛ teaspoon oil in each. Or mix them. Use what you like.
    • If making a larger batch, you can spread the popcorn out on a lined baking sheet, then drizzle chocolate over it. This will help distribute the chocolate evenly on the popcorn.
    • Other great add-ins: Crushed cookies, chopped nuts, white chocolate, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, melted butterscotch chips, caramel sauce, etc are all great on chocolate covered popcorn for one.

    FAQ

How do you drizzle melted chocolate?

Drizzling melted chocolate is easy, just scoop some melted chocolate with a small spoon and hold it over the food you want to drizzle it over. Smoothly move the spoon around to cover food with chocolate.

This chocolate covered popcorn has chocolate drizzled over it. It's delicious.

How long will chocolate covered popcorn last?

Most foods will last 3-5 days. Store your chocolate popcorn in an airtight container on the counter for a couple days. It should still smell good and have an edible texture. Use less oil/spray if you plan to store chocolate covered popcorn.

Can you add coconut oil to chocolate?

Yes, coconut oil, or another neutral oil is good melted with chocolate to make chocolate ganache or a chocolate drizzle. Coconut oil doesn't have much of a flavor, so it's a good addition to chocolate and chocolate covered popcorn too.

What can I make with leftover ingredients?

    • Popcorn: Air Fryer Popcorn
    • Chocolate Chips: Small Batch Dark Chocolate Cookies, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Single Serving Cookie Dough, and Protein Granola.

    • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

    Chocolate Topping

    • 2 Tablespoons chocolate chips favorite or multiple kinds
    • ¼ teaspoon neutral oil canola, grapeseed, coconut, etc
    • kosher or popcorn salt to taste

    Instructions

    • Microwave for 2-3 minutes, or until popcorn stops popping for 15-ish seconds.
    • Remove from microwave, and seal. Set aside.
    • Add 2 Tablespoons of chocolate chips and ¼ teaspoon oil to a small microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stir between, until melted.

    • Once chocolate is melted and smooth, shake about ⅓ of the popcorn into a serving bowl. Then drizzle about ⅓ of chocolate over it. Repeat until all popcorn and chocolate is used.
    • Add additional salt, if desired.
    • You can refrigerate popcorn to cool the chocolate, or enjoy it immediately. Either works.
