Make this easy 3 ingredient guacamole recipe if you've got a ripe avocado. It's super easy and uses ingredients you probably have on hand (assuming you freeze limes like me-it's a game changer!)

This guacamole is great on it's own with chips and/or with queso, but it's also great with veggie tacos, fish tacos, this queso burrito bowl, black bean taco pasta, and this quesadilla.

    Ingredients

Scroll down to the 3 ingredient guacamole recipe card for the amounts of each ingredient, but here's a quick description of what's in this recipe.

    • Avocado
    • Lime juice
    • Garlic salt

    Instructions

Scroll down to the recipe card for more detailed instructions. Here's a quick overview + photos to see how to make this recipe in general.

holding knife in the pit of an avocado

    1. Start preparing your 3 ingredient guacamole recipe by slicing the avocado in half. Then thrust knife into pit, turn, and remove from avocado. Slice avocado in skin using the knife. Then spoon out avocado from the skin.

    2. Place in medium sized mixing bowl.

    3. Add lime juice and garlic powder, and a pinch of salt to avocado. Mash with spoon or fork if needed, mash until desired smoothness.

    4. Serve your 3 ingredient guacamole recipe with chips, over meat, or on tacos, eggs, or burritos.

    Storage Tips

Guacamole or avocados go brown when they're exposed to oxygen, or air.

The best way to reduce browning is to either squeeze fresh lemon or lime juice over the top before covering or make sure the cover is touching your avocado or guacamole. Stir any brown parts into the rest of your guacamole.

Prepared guacamole should last 3-5 days, covered, in the fridge.

    Substitutions/Tips

    • Avocados are ready to eat when they're soft to the touch at the top of the avocado.
    • Use equal parts of white vinegar or lemon juice if you don't have lime juice.
    • Other great add-ins: add minced red onion, tomatoes, cilantro, or salsa to this 3 ingredient guacamole recipe.

    FAQ

    Is guacamole just smashed avocado?

Most guacamole recipes have other ingredients added to the avocado to add flavor. For example, this 3 ingredient guacamole recipe has avocado, lime, garlic powder, and salt added.

How do you keep guacamole from turning brown?

Make guacamole just before serving, squeeze lemon or lime juice on top, or cover with plastic wrap-pressing it down to touch the guacamole.

What is the easiest way to make guacamole?

Smash a sliced avocado and add some seasonings to it. Smash more, with a fork for a smoother texture.

    • Avocado: Spinach Strawberry Salad, Grapefruit Avocado Salad, or top this Chorizo Breakfast Casserole or Refried Bean Tacos.

Exactly. Avocado is super delicious on its own. Whatever we add to it, should only elevate it. Lovely recipe. Thanks.
