Combine cold crunchy broccoli, almonds, sweet red grapes, salty bacon, and a light half yogurt half mayo dressing and you’ve got this easy 15 minute broccoli salad with grapes that’s the perfect way to enjoy late summer & early fall flavors on these late hot summer nights. This broccoli salad is a great side dish to take to a BBQ or party.

How will this broccoli salad with grapes make your life easier?

Who doesn’t love a good, tangy broccoli salad? This version utilizes just a few ingredients, a slightly higher (thanks to the Greek yogurt) protein content, and easy to chop (or buy) veggies to save you prep time.

It’s great with my favorite grilled chicken burgers, a yummy lamb steak, or pan seared pork chops. And as always, a simple sauteed or grilled protein for a really simple dinner.

It’s also a great dish to take to a BBQ, because again, who doesn’t love a good broccoli salad? This easy strawberry salad, beet & arugula salad, & shaved zucchini salad are also great dishes to bring to a summer party.

What makes this broccoli salad so good?

  • broccoli
  • red grapes
  • mayonnaise & yogurt
  • red onion
  • almonds
  • red wine vinegar
  • sugar & salt
  • and of course bacon

How to make this broccoli salad with grapes

First step is to cook the bacon. Place a fry pan over medium heat, once the pan is hot, place a slice of bacon on the pan. Cook on one side until desired crispiness (about 4 minutes), then carefully flip over & cook the 2nd side for 3 or so minutes. Cook longer if you like really crisp bacon.

Expert safety tips when cooking bacon: When turning bacon, grab far edge with tongs, and turn away from you. Cover with a mesh fryer screen. Carefully pour grease into a (not plastic!) bowl, set aside to cook eggs, proteins, veggies (beet greens anyone?) later.

dressing for broccoli salad with grapes in a bowl

While bacon is cooking add 1/2 tbsp each yogurt and mayonnaise, 1 tsp red wine vinegar, 1/2 tsp sugar, and 1/4 tsp salt. Mix together until smooth.

Expert tip: mix dressing in serving bowl (that you’ll later add salad ingredients to) to use fewer dishes.

broccoli, red onion, and grapes on a cutting board

Chop broccoli (1 cup chopped), mince red onion (1 tbsp minced), and slice grapes in half (1/2 cup sliced grapes).

Once bacon is done cooking, chop into bitesized pieces.

Add all vegetables and bacon to mixing bowl. Mix well, then sprinkle chopped/sliced almonds right before serving. And there you have it, the most delish easy broccoli salad with grapes.

You can eat this salad as a light dinner, bring it a potluck or BBQ as a side dish, or serve with grilled chicken. Pair with your favorite crusty bread if you’d like a grain with it.

Expert tips

  • Save time by mixing the dressing together in the bowl, then add all the salad ingredients except the almonds all together.
  • Chop the broccoli into small bite sized pieces to avoid a huge mouthful of broccoli
  • Cut bacon fat off before chopping bacon. No need to bite into 100% bacon fat without any of the delicious salty bacon (unless you love it, then keep it together)

FAQ

Do I cook the broccoli?

The broccoli isn’t cooked in most broccoli salads. When it’s raw it remains crunchy and delicious. Plus the broccoli doesn’t taste bitter with all the other ingredients in it.

If you’re not a raw broccoli fan blanch it quickly by cooking it for 1-1.5 minutes in boiling water THEN immediately transfer to ice water to stop the cooking process.

Why use half mayo half yogurt in the dressing?

The yogurt adds a great tang to this salad. Trust me, it’s so good!

Should I dress the salad?

If you’re planning on eating it all in one sitting, YES. If you’re planning on having leftovers, still yes. I ate leftovers a day+ later and it was still really good. The broccoli doesn’t soften up too much within a couple days so it’ll be really good still.

What can I make using leftover salad ingredients?

  • (bacon) Easy No Mayo Potato Salad, Maple Bacon Chicken & Brussels Sprouts
  • (broccoli) Beef & Broccoli, Katie’s Famous Chicken & Broccoli
  • (red onion) mince extra and throw it in fresh salads
  • (grapes) Eat them raw, they’re so good! or slice and add to another salad.
